Beach Waves are a classic look. They are always in style and they channel the ultimate undone, effortless, sexy vibe! This blog will teach you how to achieve the Beach Waves of your dreams at home.
First things first, make sure you have the right products on hand. Beach Waves are all about texture, so that is what we are going to be looking for in a product. Our go-to faves are in the Kevin Murphy Collection:
This product is an oil-free texturizing lotion that gives the hold and grit needed for our Beach Waves. Plus, this product has a gorgeous added Violet Iridescent Mica Powder which gives hair a stunning shine boost!
This product is an easy-to-use spray version of the above. It is a texturizing hair spray that delivers all-day hold and aids in creating that perfect beachy vibe. Bonus Points: It has heat protection and can be used for some killer volume when blow-dried in!
The Kevin Murphy Hair Resort products utilize natural ingredients to boost effectiveness and nourishment. Honey is used for added hold, while citrus & tangerine are used for nourishment plus UV protection.
Now let's get down to business…
We are going to go over two great ways for creating gorgeous Beach Waves: Braids and Hot Tools
Apply your preferred Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT product to damp hair and divide hair into two sections from your part.
Make a simple french braid or twist on either side of your head - so you will have 2 braids total when finished. Air dry or diffuse hair. This method will create a larger wave.
NOTE: the more you dry your braids the longer the waves will last
Apply your preferred Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT product to damp hair and divide hair into four (or more) sections from your part. Making smaller french braids or twists will give the hair more crimped and bouncy waves. Once again, after braiding/twisting leave hair to air dry or diffuse!
Apply your preferred Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT product to damp hair. This time you are going to part your hair on theopposite side as your usual part and choose however many braids you want. Braid/twist, and once the hair is dry, flop it over to your real part line and you will have the biggest sexiest beach hair – hellooo volume!
HOT TIP: Use one of the hot tool methods below to fix up any areas you aren’t 100% happy with!
Deep Waver – this baby is the easiest, instant, straightforward way to get those mermaid waves! Just spray dry hair with heat protection and get waving!! After you're done waving your hair, take either of the Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT products and lightly work it into the hair with a scrunching motion to add texture and hold!
Curling Iron – for this method you are going to grab different-sized sections and mix up the direction of the curls (this will keep the curls fun and playful) and leave out the ends of the strands to get that beachy vibe! After you're done curling and waving your hair, take either of the Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT products and lightly work it into the hair with a scrunching motion to add texture and hold!
PS - our absolute fave curling irons are in the Mint collection!
Flat Iron – for this technique, you are going to grab different-sized sections and wiggle the flat iron back and forth to make waves as you go down the length of the hair. This method is amazing for short hair, but it does take some fine tuning to get good at! After you're done waving your hair, take either of the Kevin Murphy HAIR.RESORT products and lightly work it into the hair with a scrunching motion to add texture and hold!
COMBO: Mix and match the above instructions to make the Beach Waves of your dreams! Do a curled section, swap for the waver, try some with the flat iron – see what works for you! Using multiple tools lets you customize how curly vs bouncy vs wavy you can get!
